Ageism

The term ageism describes prejudice or discrimination on the basis of a person’s age. It is against the law to discriminate against anyone in the workplace because of their actual or assumed age.

Negative age stereotypes can affect individuals from any range of age groups. For younger generations, there is a stigma that they can be less considerate of others or restrictions on what job roles they can access due to the seniority expected of particular positions.

On the other hand, older people might be regarded as incapable of certain tasks, seemingly beyong their prime. All of these negative age stereotypes should not exist in the office. Just as with racism and sexism, ageism does not belong in western society - particularly the United States.
